This piece, and others in this collection, were done as commissioned work for the Hazelwood Christian Church in Muncie, Indiana. Their church doesn't really have windows that will accommodate leaded or stained glass, and yet they wanted to add some to the sanctuary. Creating medallions that would hang in their windows was an effective solution.
